The Rescue and Interrogation of Mira Lexor part 4

Phaedra Whitlock, RJ Miller, Ginna Wilcoxen (July 2002)

Mira looked at the holo transmission of Kaliandra, why she wanted to talk to her again. Rachel once again stood by the door to monitor her actions no doubt. Mira really hated feeling like she in fish bowl.

"What do I owe this visit Jedi Daroa?" Mira questioned.

"I was wondering if you have thought over what we last talked about."

"Yes, I just can't see your point of view." Mira answered.

"You need to think of your future," Kali stated.

"You should make Xanatos pay for what he has done to you." Rachel added.

"Make him pay?" Mira paced the cell. "You have no idea how far his reach is."

"That reach has to be shortened," Kali told her. "The only way to do that is to stand up to him and stop him."

"Then you are a fool." Mira spat.

"'The enemy is always strongest in your own mind,'" Kali said to her. "He must be stopped and a way must be found to do that or others will suffer. More children will die at his hands, Commander Lexor."

Mira paced her cell like a caged animal. "Then you face him, since you did so good last time," she spat.

"We shall."

Kali looked squarely into the holo-recorder. "I was unprepared the last time. I have learned from that. I'm still learning from that. One thing I learned that a person alone can not face him, but if we join forces, he won't be able to stop us all."

"You will die at his hands if you try to oppose him, only because of Jinn did you survive the poison." Mira countered.

"I have fallen into his traps twice," Kali said softly. "But both times, I have survived."

"Third time is the charm." Mira fought not to laugh. "You have no idea what he's capable of."

"But what of the power of the twice blessed?" Kaliandra challanged.

Mira shook her head. "I ... I can't."

"Why not?" Kaliandra pushed.

Mira shook her head. "Because I am not ...will not set myself up for anymore problems. I will take his secrets to the grave."

"And you will, soon, if you don't help us stop him. As you said, his reach is long." Kali suppressed a shudder. "Very long, but the only way to keep him from hurting others is to stop him. You have to see that, Commander Lexor, how much more blood of innocent beings do you want on your hands?"

"Stop it!" Mira spat. "What do I care of what happens to the Alliance or its people. Do you think He will let me remain here?"

"You know he won't stop with just the Alliance, Commander," Kali said softly. "Do you honestly think you will be safer not helping us?"

Mira sat down on the bed. "I'm not safe anywhere, especially with Jedi." She brought her fear under control. "I have given my word to help with the poison that was on Arridor, but that is ALL I will do."

"You are not going to be safe anywhere, with the Alliance, with the Empire, with the Jedi. You won't be safe until Xanatos is stopped once and for all and we can't do that without your help. You know him better than any of the rest of us."

"It is that knowledge that will keep me alive, Xanatos won't risk me telling anyone."

"By killing you?" Rachel asked.

"Wouldn't it be safer to just kill you now and not risk you talking?" Kaliandra countered.

Mira shook her head. "Just go to the trial. If I survive that and am not sentenced to death, lets' see how I feel then."

Kali looked at Rachel. "You can be spared that if you help us now."

Mira let out a laugh. "Do you really think I'm that naive? I will not be spared a trial, your Alliance is out for revenge ... for what I am suppose to have done..."

'What you admitted to' Rachel thinks quietly.

Kali shifted on the sleep couch. "You will be granted time to help us. That time will allow tempers to cool and more rational head to take their place. The trial will happen, but right now, if you help us."

Mira shook her head. "I don't buy into false hope Jedi. If you will excuse me, I'm tired."
