Mingling With Mern 3/3 by Aron Sandler and April Randall "I'm trying... it's difficult for me to be anything other than that... No one have ever been around me that would argue with me and make me see the wrong in my way, my men were too scared of me to do that." She snorted. "Whether it's fun or not, and it's usually not, it's best to have someone tell you you're stupid every once in awhile. Brings down the ego." "Whether or not that is true, I do not know, for I have never experienced it. There has never been anyone there, for the time I was in the military my life was the military there was nothing else." "You're stupid," she pronounced. "Maybe, but imagine being pulled out of your house at twelve, being sent to military traning for special operations, in which they trained you to live for the military, in which they destroyed everything else in your life... That is why I am the way I am." "You seem to want to change that, though. So stop bringing up the past. Someone finally gave me a whack on the side of the head and told me to stop whining about what happened. How can you change when you're constantly reminding yourself of what happened to make you who you are? Start fresh. Take it one day at a time." "I wish I could, but my whole body, my whole mind has been trained that way, I wish I could just give it up. But giving up seventeen years of one's life, especially the childhood years, is not easy." Mia gave an exasperated sigh. "If you wish it bad enough, it may not still be easy but it will eventually happen. Trust yourself again. Trust the Jedi. Find out if you're Force sensitive, and then take a break before deciding anything. I found my vacation very...soothing." "Assuming I were to take a vacation I have nowhere to go." "Take it on Yavin. I hear there's lots of things to do there." "Come on, Mia, I know that much, I've talked with Jaina. Yavin has the Jedi and jungle that's it." "There's a couple of towns," she said, almost defensively. "So have them make you relax on Temple grounds. Can't be that hard." "I don't know if I want to be associated with the Jedi yet, I just want answers, maybe that will lead to training, maybe not..." "But take a vacation there anyway. They're not going to hold you there against your will." She stopped, suddenly thinking of Octavia and Alida briefly. "They might not, but I don't know if I want to associate with them or not, and I don't know if Yavin is the place for me." "Then find a relaxing place and take a vacation," she said through almost gritted teeth. "Do I have to spoon feed you next?? Stop protesting against every little thing, and just take it one step at a time!" He turned his head to the side and sighed. "I'm sorry, there is so much running through my head I don't know what to think or what to do, or..." He looked at her. "Who to trust." She looked at him, then looked away, sighing a little. Why was she suddenly having all these heart to hearts with people? "Wait til you decide anything until after Yavin." "I was planning on that, it's just...oh...I don't know...I'm having trouble thinking clearly about anything right now." "Then don't think. Go drink or sleep it off or something. Or, Jedi meditate." "The last time I tried to drink something off I ended up thinking I was a Wookiee, I'm not going to let that happen again." She snorted. "Okay, then. Just keep loading up your ship or whatever you were doing. Do something to get your mind off the fact that you can't think right now. How glad I am I don't have the Force," she muttered. "Be glad of that, I hope that I don't have it to an extent. For if I do, the Jedi will only try to convert me." "Nah, they're not so bad, once you get to try to know them." "I hope so, but I would rather not be put in that position...what if I become dark?" She sighed a little. "So don't think about it. I thought, uh, Jedi don't fear or something." "Maybe, but I am not a Jedi yet." "If you decide you want to be, you'll have to start acting like one." "I don't know if I want to be one." "What have I said five times so far?? Take it one step at a time." "I'm trying to, it's not easy shaking the military training." "You're going to have to try if you want to change." She looked at her wrist chrono. "Well, it's been fun, but I need to go." She started to stand up. "Yeah, Lon probably thinks I've killed you by now and am disposing of the body," she said casually. Mern stood as well, he chuckled at her statement. "Well, then Lon will be in for quite a surprise when you tell him what happened." "Yeah. I still am, too." "Well, considering you came here wanting to kill me, I will take the fact that you are surprised to be a good thing." She considered that for a moment. "Yeah, I try to refrain from losing my temper. But it's sort of been a pleasure. Again, I hope you find what you're looking for." "Thank you. I hope that some day we will run into each other again." She considered *that* for a moment. "We'll see. Have fun on Yavin -- oh, wait, you don't know how to. Tell the Jedi to teach you. I'd love to see that." She started to head for the exit. "I doubt they will be able to teach that. Good-bye, Mia... May the Force be with you..." "Yup, considering I can't feel it. Same to you. Thanks again for the key. Enjoy the credits." "Oh... I had forgotten about those... I still don't want them. Please take them back." "Nope." She kept walking. "If you don't, then they will be jettisoned into space." She stopped. "Oooooh. He *had* to say that." She turned back to him. "You're awful, you know that?" "Yes, I know. But I am serious." Mia gave a sound of disgust as she gave in. Better to use the credits than to have them floating around in space... She walked up to him, holding out her hand. "Here." Mern handed her the credit sticks with a slight smirk on his face. She narrowed her eyes at him, taking the credits back. "I'll...give them to Rikka. Though the thought of a 10-year-old with 19,000 credits is slightly disturbing," she mused as she headed back for the exit. "Yes it is... Thank you for listening." "Have fun," she called back as she left, heading for Lon's ship. Mern watched her leave, then leaned against the wall and sighed, wondering what lay in store for him next. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
