(Note: This role play takes place before some of the other posts posted...in fact, it's before quite a few of them...) Even Smugglers Make Mistakes, Part 1 by April Randall, Ginna Wilcoxen, and Amanda Wilcoxen Mia sighed as she rolled over on her bunk, trying to push the sleepiness from her eyes. A single beep had sounded, one loud enough to wake her up, signaling her that there was a new customer to meet. She hadn't told Brodin about the second job she accepted at Port Lansing. At that point during the week when she'd talked to Tara Alderson, the time had passed for the mysterious person's chance to pick up Tral's package. So there really hadn't been any harm in taking the second job since she couldn't have missed anything. But she knew Brodin wouldn't see it that way. She got up and went to a section of the wall, pressing a round button. A small panel hissed open and a computer screen moved forward. Mia waited until it was fully out before speaking. "Access secondary account, authorization Mia Jesbar, one five Parallax ninety-three Jacinda." The words 'secondary account accessed' flashed across the screen. "Transfer 40,000 credits to account 54271, authorization Mia Jesbar, fifty-one crew ten delta Prent." The words 'transfer successful' flashed across the screen. Mia pressed the button again and the monitor pulled itself back into the wall. Brodin would never know about the job, or the money given her by Tara Alderson, and she intended to keep it that way. It was always smart to lay aside a few credits for a rainy day. Now it was time to see what her next job was going to be. ***** Mia walked into the room to meet the new contact. She was a little surprised to see a fully cloaked figure sitting in one of the chairs around the table. "I'm Mia Jesbar," she introduced herself. "What can I do for you?" "I have an assignment from my ... boss." The man spoke slowly as if he rehearsed what he was supposed to say. "The pay is good." Mia sat down at the table across from him. "What is the nature of this assignment?" "A simple retrieval," the man answered. "My boss ... wants his daughter back." He laid a disk on the table. "She ... is with the ... Alliance, the Jedi." Mia tried to hide her displeasure at the fact she might be dealing with Jedi, and, at that, with other Force users. "More and more, I get asked to smuggle people. They have a name for that. It's called kidnapping. Tell me why I would want to risk going against the Jedi *and* the Alliance." "It isn't kidnapping when ... you bring someone out who wants to escape." The man shook his head. "She is a prisoner of the Jedi, because of her abilities." "She wants to escape?" Mia tried to clarify, stunned that the Jedi would keep people against their will. The man nodded. "It ... was ... distressing to discover that the Jedi are not what they seem to be." The man cleared his throat. "Will you help him?" Mia didn't answer him for a few moments. One side of her inner struggle told her to trust the Jedi, that the few she had had contact with were good people. The other side told her that even good people could work for organizations with questionable practices. "How old is his daughter?" Mia asked. "She was twelve when she was taken," he shook his head. "She would be fifteen now... I know how the Jedi are supposed to be honorable, but there are..." his words trailed off. "There are what?" she pressed. "In order for me to take this job, I need to know all of the circumstances. I need to know what I'm going to be up against." "There are those who...want only power and to control. She is a bright girl, very inventive, the Jedi won't want to let her go." The man paused. "She's ... on Yavin right now ... be the easiest ... way to reach her..." His shoulders seemed to droop. Mia pushed the question she was about to ask to the side. "Are you all right?" He nodded. "It's just ... my ... family helped raise her ... her father is a tradesman. I can't imagine what she's been ... through." Mia picked up the disk he'd laid on the table earlier. "What's this?" "It's what she looks like... An easy way to make sure you identify her." The man paused. "That is, if you take the job." Mia's mind was already made up. The thought of another girl only a few years younger than she as a prisoner of the Jedi? Who knew what they were doing to her? "I'll do it," she said quickly. "Now we just need to discuss price. You said the pay was good." "Yes, he is offering a reward of 70,000 credits for her SAFE return." the man stressed the word safe. "70,000? For going up against the Jedi? What if they try to hunt us down?" "My employer isn't ... a rich man, miss. That is all he has. I'm sure... you can do it in such a way the Jedi would never discover who you are. "You're right on that count," she told him. "70,000 it is. Does this...daughter of your employer's know that she's about to be 'kidnapped?'" The cloaked figure shook his head. "Her father ... was able to get a message to her that help would be ... arriving..." The man lowered his head. "We weren't sure how ... and we came to you." Mia wondered how she, out of all the people in the galaxy available to take a job like this, had been found. The Parallax had only recently traveled to the main part of the galaxy from beyond the Outer Rim. She studied the man for a few moments, trying to see if she could tell if he was honest. The man's voice cracked with emotion, "You will do this ... for him ... and for the child?" his tone full of emotion and sincerity. "Yes, I'll do it," she said quickly, to stop the overly emotional display. "The Jedi will get suspicious if I just walk in and take this girl with me. Do you have a plan for that or is it up to me to figure it out?" "They leave Port Lansing, the best time would be when they have arrived at Yavin." The man shrugged his shoulders. "I'm not very good ... at this. I'm sorry." The man stood. "Once you have her ... you can contact me at this location." He paused. "You will be paid once I receive ..." he paused. "My employer's daughter." "No payment in advance?" "Is that ... customary?" he questioned. "Usually a customer will lay down part of the final payment as a show of good faith that they can and will pay. I think 20,000 credits for now would be reasonable." The figure paused as if in thought. "Very well," he removed his hand from his cloak and produced a disk. "To which account would you like it transferred to?" "You can transfer it to our company's account. Captain Brodin will assist you on your way out." "Of course." He paused. "Again ... my employer is indebted to you." "Of course," Mia nodded as she stood up. "I'll contact you when we have her." The figure nodded and moved to see the captain. Once all arrangements had been made he left the ship, making sure that he was on his own transport before he leaned against the wall, bursting out in laughter. When the cloaked figure had left, Mia stuck the disk into a console against the wall. A holo-image of a young girl with crystal eyes and long, red hair came up. Mia looked at the other information provided. Medenna La'Rose, Jedi Padawan. With three years of Force training, Medenna could have made a tough opponent. It was a good thing this kidnapping wasn't for real. However, Mia had heard about Force users being able to track each other with the Force. She'd have to find a way to stop that from happening. Mia watched on a security cam as the customer left the ship. She pulled out her comlink. "Brodin?" "It's clear. He's gone," came Brodin's reply. "Tell the crew to make space for a Force-dampening cell and find that Force collar we have." "We don't have a Force-dampening cell, Mia." "I know, but we're about to acquire one. Ready the ship. We're going to Yavin." _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TRANSMISSION FROM: "Alliana 701" TO: The FoE Role-Play list Remember: Please send all non-Role-Play to the General Club list foe@deathstar.org If you have any problems or questions, please send them to: cantina-owner@deathstar.org
