The purpose of the Paddy Crean Workshop is to
encourage an international exchange of safe stage combat techniques, the development of
cooperation and skill, and the camaraderie found in the sharing of ideas and knowledge of
the Sword and the Pen.
This year's Paddy Crean International Stage Combat
Workshop will be hosted by the Banff Center for the Arts, in beautiful Banff, Alberta
Canada. The workshop is an intensive seven days of stage combat instruction with Master
teachers from nine countries.
There will be several levels of instruction
giving special emphasis to:
Actor combatant
Advanced actor combatant
Certified teacher
Fight director
Specialized classes for the professional artist will
also include:
Opera in performance
Ballet in performance
Shakespeare in performance
Instruction will include most staged
weapons:
Broadsword
Hand & a half
Sword & shield,
Single rapier,
Rapier & dagger
Rapier & cloak
Rapier & Gauntlet
Case of rapier

Quarter staff
Unarmed, stuntwork, and much more...
Some pyrotechnics and firearms.
There will be stage movement training
in:
Mask / Comedia
Historical dance and sword dancing
Voice in performance
Historical fighting techniques will be shared
from the old Masters, including:
Spanish rapier
German Mensur
Dusack
&
The ancient martial art of grappling, closings, grips, pressas, and
disarms, as found in the
Systems of Defence of : Marozzo, Meyer, Agrippa, Fabris,
DeHooghe and Liechtenauer.
Many lectures, forums and round table discussions on
a variety of topics will be presented.
