Greetings and salutations to you, my humble and tentative visitor! Please, linger not on my doorstep and enter into our impressive presence. I welcome you on behalf of all the mephits here to our awe-inspiring domicile here on the Web. As I'm sure you well know, this business we've called "On the Wings of Mephits..." is the foremost messanger service and chant brokerage there is. Dare not to mock me! I'm sure that you, like all the rest of the multiverse, have the misinformed opinion that we mephits are mere annoyances - magical creations not worth the elements we're animated from. Hah! It's precisely that attitude which will be your downfall.

Would you like to know why? I'll tell you why. Who do you think is recruited to deliever all those threats? Mephits. Who is chosen to carry blackmail? Mephits. Who is told to sit quietly in a corner and then ignored during all those secrect negotiations? Mehpits! We're everywhere, yet completely overlooked. As such, we are able to learn every little secret thing you'd rather not have any one know. And, as a matter of racial revenge, we display those secrets for all to view! What do you say to that, my humbled friend? I thought so. That's a much better attitude.

Now that we understand each other a little better, may I deign to be of some assitance to you? I know all manner of secrets, surely I can share one or two with you - for the right price, of course. Ask me any question at all. "Who am I", you ask? You really don't know what greatness you are standing before? Well, then, I'll tell you! ...<*ahem*>...

Behold! For I am Plasam Conflagratio, the White-Hot Flame, Cauterizer of Wounds, Confidant to the Powers, and most beloved amongst all Fire Mephits! I am the Supreme Overlord and Controller of all beings and secrets to be entombed within these Web Pages. Know that I am he who controls the vast spy network of mephits which has gathered the chant and dark you'll find listed herein.

What? You don't believe me? Well, perhaps I've exaggerated just a touch. I am actually the Owner and Manager of this web site. But I really do know all that goes on here.

Oh, fine. You've wheedled the truth out of me. Ken merely lets me answer the front door. You... you won't tell any of the other Fire Mephits that, will you? Please?

Hi, folks. Ken here. I'd like to apologize for my receptionist's attitude. But then, he is a fire mephit; you know how they love to put on airs of importance (more-so than most mephits, I mean). Anyway, thanks for stopping by to visit these web pages. Since I've managed to restrain the mephit, I guess I'd better give you a better explanation of what you can find here.

First of all, what are these web pages all about? This series of pages are dedicated to the PLANESCAPE setting for the ADVANCED DUNGEONS & DRAGONS role-playing game. PLANESCAPE is, in mine and many others' opinions, the best setting for AD&D. And, as a 15+ year veteran of role-playing games, I like to think we know what we're talking about. In my opinion, this setting is the first veteran setting that TSR has ever made. Not just because of the sheer number of game mechanics that have to be kept track of, but for the simple reason that the key to the entire setting is that Belief = Power. The only way to accurately portray this is by role-playing; hack-n-slash gamers just will not be able to survive the setting. I think that only Players and DMs who invest a vast amount of creative effort will be able to fully enjoy the setting as it was meant to be enjoyed.

But, you probably didn't come here to listen to me just sing the praises of the setting. (Either because you already love it and I'd be preaching to the choir, or else you have no idea what-so-ever about the setting and most of what I have to say would be lost.) You most likely came here to see what I've created for the PLANESCAPE setting. Well, far be it from me to intentionally disappoint you. The information you'll find in this web site were created almost exclusively by me for use in the first PLANESCAPE campaign that I ran (called Luck of the Draw); or at least, with that campaign in mind. However, they should be easily converted for use with your own campaigns if you find them useful. Most items here were written during a rather hectic creative spurt that lasted around two years (from the setting's introduction in 1995 through 1997). The others were done mainly to get the ideas out of my system and down on "paper" and present them so that someone somewhere might benefit from them while I'm in between Planescape campaigns.

As with the items I have on my personal web pages, I am always open to comments, suggestions, and new ideas. Just drop me an electronic line. Also, if you have something related to PLANESCAPE that you'd like published on the Web and have been unable to find anywhere to post it, I am willing to volunteer my hard drive space to let you put a copy of your work here.

Well, enough introduction and overview. I'll let Plasam come back and do his job to guide you deeper into these pages.

Oh thank, Sir Lipka. You are too kind to this lowly mephit. I salute you...

Is he gone? Good. Now, before we were so rudely interrupted, I - the mighty Plasam Conflagratio - was going to share with some of the mysterious darks that I have personally gathered onto these web pages. Pay close attention and mark well my words. What I'm about to tell you could save your life.

Sense of Adventure

It's been rather a long time since I've updated anything on these pages. This is mainly because I hadn't been doing anything with the setting, so I lost most of my motivation to create new material. But, in January of 2002, I started up a new Planescape campaign, and I've tried to convert my favorite setting into the 3E system. The pages you'll find beyond this link are a bit more sparse than the 2E pages, as I've mainly only posted stuff of direct use to my players and the various things I've converted into the 3E parlance. But, if you are still a Planescape fan, and are wondering how to continue the setting under the new rules, there might be some good ideas for you here.

Your Mephit Planar Tours, Inc.

If you dare step down this passageway, you will arrive in the mysterious offices of Your Mephit Planar Tours, Inc. Once there, your hearing will be assaulted by a horribly rushed, and terribly over-eager, Lightning Mephit. His sole purpose in life is take humble visitors - such as yourself - around to visit many of the wondrous and diverse Places in the Multiverse. Rather pathetic, really. In addition to these Locations and Places, you can also find a page containing Links to other Planescape web sites. (But I highly doubt you'll want to learn anything else once you've listened to us.)

The Soggy Mephit Tavern

If you're looking to schmooze with the Who's Who (or even the What's What) of the Planes, then this is the place to go. Sure, the barkeep's nothing more than a dispicable, tactless Water Mephit, but what did you expect from the name, eh? I doubt she's friends with all the People she claims to be, but somehow she's managed to assemble quite an interesting portfolio of the dark on many a being. (But don't tell her I said that. Please?)

Beggar's Tomb

If you get bored with travelling to exotic new Places and meeting interesting new People, then I guess you'd better head down this passageway. Hidden within the Iron Cubes of Acheron are these catecombs of lost Objects. In addition to the various Things (Magical and Not), there are also rumored to be hidden some of the very Rules of Planescape that the Guvners have long sought. I tried to ask the Magma Mephit who runs the place where he got all these Things and Rules from, but he didn't answer me. (So what if it was just after I had pushed him into a pool of water? I asked nicely, and I even apologized for the joke later. Sheesh. Magma Mephits - no sense of humor.)

The Library of Shadows

What's this? This is where you go when you're sick of dealing with the tangible objects all of the previous mephits are longing to show you. The Library - run by a particularly bossy (and irritable) Steam Mephit - is home to the result of countless hours of work on the part of millions of scribes! Well, maybe not. It does have Fiction written by Ken's players concerning various scenes in between game sessions, as well as some of the private journals of many a brave adventurer. (Well, one or two at any rate.) Personally, I love these books since they show you how all those famous bloods you always hear about really behave. (Oh, the scandals...)

The Planescape Fiction Archive

This place is another library of sorts, overseen by a worthless Smoke Mephit. Unlike the previous collection of dusty and purloined pages, the Archive is a vast collection of Fiction that has been written by people like yourself; that is to say, people who live on the Internet and aren't part of Ken's gaming circle. And, as an added bonus, they've willingly let their words be published. Takes most of the fun out of reading them, don't you think? But, if you've got some time, curl up with a cigar and one of these books. I've got a light...

Inner Workings

(Hey, stop spraying water on me!) Oh, sorry, humble traveller. Ken's just reminded me that I have to tell you about these pages as well. If you really want to know just what the heck he's thinking with these pages, you should stop in here. Also, you can take a look at some really boring information like Copyrights, Disclaimers, and Special Thanks. Oh yeah, I guess you could also go and look to see if anything new has been added recently. Personally, I don't go here much - after all, there's no mephits on these pages! (Not that we haven't tried, mind you.)
