For someone who doesn't want to get involved, she sure gets involved in a lot. (I suppose that explains her identifying quote.)
Lilah's class - Mage/Thief - is nothing terribly unusual. All of her spells are oriented more towards being sneaky and evasive, rather than offensive. Things like Fly, Invisibility and so forth. Her thief skills also reflect that, being geared more towards skills like Hiding in Shadows and Moving Silently. However, her main focus in thieving is in being a cat-burglar, that is Locks and Traps.
The bulk of the character's oddness lies in her family history. She is a seventh generation tiefling with both Baatezu and Tanar'ri blood in her. This fact has caused problems with certain magical traps... Also, she has a tiny bit of weretiger blood in her (this mainly accounts for the presence of a tail and some cat-like personality traits). The Baatezu blood is the majority and accounts for the "7th generation" qualifier. This infernal heritage comes from her father's side of the family. The Tanar'ri blood is relatively new and fairly direct: her mother is a good-align Alu-Fiend; her immediate grandmother is a succubus. In fact, her grandmother is none other than Red Shroud of Broken Reach.
Actually, the player didn't choose this grandmother, I did. (I tend to have fun messing with the families of every character this player creates.) However, based on how Linda (the player) described the family, I almost had no choice but to choose Shroud. This ancestry has actually made the game a bit more interesting as it allows me to get the party involved in the Blood War and other Lower Planar politics via Lilah's grandmother. I also managed to start tempting the character over to a more evil alignment; at least until the character of Chakan demonstrated the price of being tempted by evil.
The character comes from the gatetown of Tradegate; where her parents are still alive and running a restaurant in that burg. The father is a essentially a highly skilled riverboat gambler; the mother, besides being a "reformed" Tanar'ri, is also a highly skilled chef (and mage).
The character started out as desiring nothing more out of life than to survive and make lots of money (in about that order). It is the tiefling blood and her parents' upbringing which pushed her into the Indeps rather than the Fated. However, since taking up a somewhat forced adventuring career, Lilah has come realize that it's quite money that she wants, but influence - and the survival of her faction. She helped to stop the plague which was killing the Free League in Sigil; and now she's starting to run a campaign against the Harmonium member who is directly responsible for the persecution of her faction in Sigil - Mover Four Durkayle. That, and she's desperately trying to stay out from under the thumb of her "mistress-grandmother", Red Shroud.
What do I, as a DM, have planned for Lilah? Nothing Linda doesn't already know. The character's increasing involvement with the general welfare of the Indep Faction in Sigil does play into an early goal I had since the start of the campaign. And naturally, I am going to continue to intrude on her life with Red Shroud for quite some time. Actually, the player doesn't really mind this; I think she kind of enjoys it, in a morbid fashion. (At least I get some personal satisfaction of being a good DM whenever I hear Linda say "Oooh, that BITCH!" in refernce to her infernal relation.)
