You want a case of mistaken identity? How about a whole room of them? That's Nim.

Nim was the first character played by Robb. The character was retired for two reasons. First, the player had to drop out of the campaign due to real life starting to intrude. Second, the character was starting to no longer be fun for the player. At the time, we moved the character back to NPC status (much like Ovi) and started making plans for how to simplify things. Then, by the time Robb was able to come back, he decided he'd rather start over and have a new character (hence, Ponk).

While Nim was around, she was quite nearly a basket case and a prime example of getting in over one's head. To start, she had essentially been cursed to the Outer Planes by an interrupted spell. The result being that while her physical body was here, her visual presence was not. (The character was permenantly invisible.) So, like the invisible man, she had to wear make-up and disguises in order to be seen and interact with people. Of course, being a prime and an adolescent to boot, she didn't make friends too easily and ended up making bunches of enemies. Thus, Nim constantly had to change costumes and names so that the people she pissed off didn't kill her or the rest of the party.

Eventually, Nim settled on three main identities: Dimeesh the Fighter, Terrin the Rogue, and Karlina the Priestess. However, due to the planar influences and great efforts taken to protect herself, these costumes eventually become seperate and distinct personalities. Thus, even though Nim eventually became visible again, she had lost herself in these disguises. Each one actually became a character of that class, with a diffent alignment (LE fighter, N rogue, CG priestess). And, on top of all this, she was mistaken for a yugoloth mercenary/assassin and kept getting notes about who her next victim was supposed to be. And when she went to warn them, they all died of odd accidents just as she got there... Given this natural disguise ability, and the supposed rep as a master assassin, it was only "natural" that she was recruited by the Revolutionary League. (This is probably the first some of my players have heard of this!)

The original plan was for once the character got out of Sigil, the personalities would somehow be split into three physical bodies; thus making them an odd sort of triplets. This would let the player choose the one best suited to his playing style. However, with the decision to create Ponk, the whole plot became moot.

There was only two really good plots that Nim got involved in during her career with the Fivers. The first was the frustration with being mistaken for a yugoloth assassin. The second was that at one point the character actually pulled off an Anarchist mission - by betraying some secrets of the Doomguard that Chakan had trusted to the party. (I guess it's finally time that Josh learn who really tipped off the Anarchists about the weapons shipment.) I feel safe in revealing this since Chakan is out of the game and Josh should be past the point of caring about anything Doomguard related now.
