****BZZZZ-ZOT**** goodygoodygoodyAcust-toooooomer! HiThere!!! How'sItGoing? WelcomeToMyBusinessYourMephitPlanarToursInc! PonyUpTheCashAndYou'reThereInAFlash! IKnowYouWantToGoSomewhere. WhyElseWouldYouBeHere? SoWhereDoYouWantToGoToday? Huh?Huh?Huh? I'veGotSeveralSpecialDealsThatICan - What? Sorry about that - I get so excited when I see a customer. I'll try to talk nice and slow for you mortals. Is this better? Good. I don't know how long I'll be able to keep this up, so just tell me when I start to GoTooFastForYou. I am Currentialous Directario al-Mau Tai, The Uncatchable Messenger, Brightest Flash of Insight, Fleetest of Foot and Most-Travelled of all Lightning Mephits! I am also your Tour Guide Extraordinaire. I've been everywhere in the multiverse, and I can take you anywhere in... well... a flash. PleaseLetMeGiveYou a Guided Tour OfTheEntireMultiverse. Oh, please, don't look at me like that. Trust me. I know that the Multiverse is a ReallyBigPlace, but with my speed and incredible sense of direction I should be able to show you around most of it and still get you back in time for dinner. Unless, of course, I GetLostOrWeRunIntoAReallyNastyMonster. So, just step right this way and IWillTakeYouAroundTheMultiverseStartingWith - |
Whoa! Hold on there, al-Mau Tai. Sorry about the hyperactivity and enthusiasm, folks; but then, he is a Lightning Mephit. Being composed of pure energy would probably make anyone a little hard to pin down. Anyway, I'm glad to see that you've decided to stop in to take a look at my "Places in Planescape" pages. Please allow me to translate what this particular mephit is trying to tell you... One of the key elements (in my opinion, naturally) to the Planescape setting is literally the setting itself. If the DM fails to communicate the utter vastness and other-worldness of the planes to the players, the group might as well not even be in the setting. I think that every physical place the characters travel to should have some philosophical or surreal aspect to it - even a simple tavern on the corner. Or, at the very least, the location must have a description that is as detailed as a major NPC. While TSR has already provided a vast tapestry of places with which a DM can work, most of the canon material is rather broad in scope. The published material leaves many of the tiny details blank, to allow DMs to customize things for their specific tastes and campaigns. And so, as a DM, I have created these tiny details. These pages provide a look at all of the places I have detailed for both my campaigns and my personal satisfaction. Some places are expansions upon or changes to places that TSR created; many are entirely new. So, with my introduction out of the way, let's hand things back over to the mephit. (Hey, Currentialous. A little slower this time, eh?)
Of course, Master. Given your earlier hesitation at seeing the EntireMultiverseAllAtOnce, I suppose I can organize
your destinations a little bit better and break things down into more managable pieces for you. So, fellow planewalkers,
if you would care to select from one of my fine tour packages, we can begin your journey...
Grand Tour of Sigil | |
|
Ahhh, Sigil. The Cage. The CityOfDoors. Grand Central Station for the Multiverse. That Really Big Donut-City on
top of the Spire. Since it's true that everyone comes through it's portals sooner or later, why not start here?
Now, while the first thing most people want to see are the headquarters of the various factions, I'll leave
that to the second-rate touts. I am a top-shelf tout, so I'll take you 'round to all those little nooks and
crannies that most people ignore. I'll show you all the unique Taverns and wonderful Shops that are tucked away
into the side streets and back alleys of the Lady's City.
| |
Walkabout of the Great Ring
|
Getting the hang of Sigil is only your FirstStep into a larger multiverse, cutter. Now that I've shown you around
the Cage, I think it's high time you got your Plane-Legs. Step through ThisPortalAnd I can lead you across the
vast reaches of the Great Ring, the Outer Planes themselves! Certainly, I can tell you about the various Gatetowns
and some of the Locales within. But, as a true tout, I can get you into some of the more unusual places; those
Locations which aren't OpenToJustAnyone.
| |
Vacations on the Inner Planes
|
I can tell that you're truly an adventurous one! Why else would you want to risk the HarshEnvironsOfThe Inner Planes,
eh? Honestly, though, this is going to be a quick tour. Why? Because there's not much there, that's why. And I
ShouldKnowAfterAll, I'm a mephit - I live there.
| |
Sightseeing on the Prime
|
What, are you looking to complete your collection of passport stamps or something? Why do want to go here? Yes,
it's still a part of the planes and is VastlyIgnoredBy a vast majority of the Planewalking population; but there
can't really be anything there that interests you, can there? Oh, OK. I'll show you around - but
JustThisOneTime. If you get bored, don't say I didn't warn you.
| |
Portals to the Web | |
|
Ahh, this is a truly wondrous tour! I'm still amazed by this new TechnologyCalledTheWorldWideWeb. Think of it...
an entire network of virtual places - all held together by BillionsAndBillions of Lightning Mephits! You and I will
have a great time surfing the electrons, let me tell you! Come with me and see what those other mephits are
keeping a firm grip on.
