Location

Severed Head Weapons is located in a building on the edge of the Great Bazaar in Sigil. (This store is a TSR creation, found originally in "In the Cage".)

Exterior Description

Severed Head Weapons is a small, unassuming wooden building on the edge of the Great Bazaar. It is a single story, and barely a score of feet wide. A single door, and a dirty glass window are set into the front wall. A wooden signboard hanging over the door graphically illustrates the establishment's name.

Interior Description

SHW is just as small and unkempt looking on the inside as it is on the outside. The shop is a single room which apparently takes up most of the space inside the building. The floor is just as dirty as the single window which barely serves to provide illumination. The only furniture is a single display case, a desk, and a chair. The case shows one or two samples of the store's wares, as well as (possibly out-of-date) lists of inventory written on faded parchment. A curtained doorway marks the way into the rest of the building. One of the two owners can always be found behind the desk, seated on the chair.

Services

Even though the physical appearance of the staff and the building leave much to be desired, the same cannot be said of the store's stock. Severed Head has the reputation of being to sell any kind of non-magical weapon that a customer could desire - eventually. For while it is true that the store can indeed provide a customer with a weapon to his exact specifications, it may take some time for the object to be in stock. The store is almost certain to have the more mundane requests, but with enough persistance, even Blackrock weapons can be purchased here. And all weapons are sold at the fair, current market rate.

However, one should be aware that the proprieters of Severed Head don't do requests, per se. You can ask for a specific weapon, and if they have one, they will sell it to you. But, if the item isn't in stock, don't expect them to try and find it for you. They come across their stock randomly, and sell it as such. Thus, you are much better off going to a true craftsman if you are looking for something very specific.

Staff

As far as anyone knows, Severed Head Weapons is owned and run by only two people - Tod and "Cha'ly". Tod (Pl/Hu/--/FL/LE) is a fat, greasy, balding human dressed in a pair of stained, blue breeches and a leather apron. He always has a lit cigar clamped in his rotting teeth. Tod seems to serve as the public proprieter for the store. His main role is to find out what a customer is looking for, and calling (in a thick Brooklyn accent) to his partner in the backroom to see if the item is in stock. A typical conversation (which rarely varies) is:

"Yeah, whaddya want?"
**customer answers**
"Hey, Cha'ly!"
(from back room) "WHAT?!?" (a very irritated voice, unidentifiable accent)
"Do we have a - whaddya want again?"
**customer answers yet again**
"-a #customer's request# back there?"
(from back room) "YEAH!" or "NO!" depending on whether the item is in stock.

No one has ever seen "Cha'ly" - it is unknown what race the other owner is; it's not even sure that "Cha'ly" is male (although the voice does sound male).

One rumor that's been around for nearly as long as the store has is that the place is really a disguised temple to Suang Chiang - the Chinese Power of Thieves. It would explain the randomness of the stock, as well as the chance for the owners to come up with something truly exceptional every once in a great while. If it weren't for the fact that the Lady prevents the direct manifestation of Powers in Sigil, many would put stock in the bet that Cha'ly is an Avatar of the Many-Armed One (and thus has a tentacle sticking into the storeroom of every single weaponsmaker in the multiverse).

DM's Notes

Severed Head Weapons is really only a distributer for weapons - it doesn't make any. However, it's network of dealers must be fairly extensive because the store has been able to sell any kind of weapon - including magical and the exceedingly rare Dwarven Blackrock items. Granted, the selection is very much on a hit or miss basis. The chance of the store having a requested weapon is directly proportional to the rarity of the object (usually based on the metal it is made out of).

Rarity of Object Chance in Stock
(per week)
Common 90%
Uncommon 60%
Rare 20%
Very Rare 5%
Very Very Rare 1%

This is really nothing more than an excuse for the DM to not have to come up with the inventory of the weapons shop. Instead, the DM simply lets the players tell him what they are looking for, and then can decide on the spur of the moment if the weapon is available. In all cases, the customer should be charged the "normal" price for the object he seeks.
