Session Summary - 07/18/2003

This relatively short session saw the accomplishment of one more task and the start of a second.

To start, the party had to figure out what had happened to Zin. They had a general idea, but no real specifics. While their githzerai friend had told the party that he was going to be visiting his home monastery in the depths of Limbo, Zin had neglected to tell them its name. As such, they could not just blindly jump into Limbo and start travelling. They had to figure out some way to find Zin and get in touch with him so they could determine where to go.

Fortunately, Dr. Fever found some scrolls of Scry to help with the locating portion of the problem. The party went to the gatetown of Xaos to perfrom the spell and get a head start of the journey to rescue their friend. Unfortunately, while Dr. Fever was easy able to locate Zin, the gith was not at a destination yet. So, the party would have to wait a day or two for their friend to actually get somewhere.

However, Zin detected Dr. Fever's attempt and was able to Scry him in return and establish contact. The young gith informed them that he was now officially an adult and had decided that it might be best not to return home at the present time. Zin declared he would slip away and create a stable location in the roiling chaos of Limbo so that the party could find him and escort him out of the plane. With this plan in place, the party was able to enter Limbo and eventually hook up with their friend.

On the journey back towards the portal to the Outlands, the party realized that they need to protect Zin from a Slaad in order to accomplish one of their required tasks. Given Zin's obvious ability to control the environment and create his own form of reality, the party decided to have him create an artificial slaad for him to provoke and thus give the party something to protect him from. The plan worked - a bit too well.

It seems that Zin's attempt to create a slaad actually called a pair of *real* red slaadi to the party's location. Despite this surprise, the party was able to quickly if not exactly easily deal with the threat and thus save Zin for real. After the fight, the party left Limbo and discussed which task to try and accomplish next.

They settled on an "easy" one - they would travel to Ysgard to slay three giants in single combat. However, since they could not immediately decide who would be the one to accomplish the task, the party decided to have a little contest. Twig, Rusteen, Greymankle, Jack, and Zin would all find a giant and fight it one-on-one. The first person to kill their giant would be the one to officially accomplish the task. The results of this insane idea were as follows:

Twig, Jack, and Greymankle did manage to severely damage their giants but did not quite manage to kill them before they were damaged into unconciousness. (Jack actually died, but the nature of Ysgard brought him back to life the following morning.) Rusteen did kill his own giant (although it was rather cowardly as he made use of his magical boots and archery rather than going toe-to-toe) plus the one that Greymankle had damaged. Zin, although he did very little physical damage, managed to mentally dominate the three remaining giants and forced them to leave before the party got overwhelmed by multiple opponents.

The plan for the next session is for Zin to mentally command the remaining giants to return to the field of battle and have Rusteen take them on one-by-one, but this time with the woodsman prepared with lots of spells and psionic powers.
