Logs and Interludes
This page contains all of the short stories that my players have written over e-mail during
the course of the campaign. These stories fill in the gaps of time that were glossed over in
play, or else cover events that were handled privately since they did not involve the entire
party. The list below is of all the stories to date, in about the correct chronological order.
APPROXIMATE TIMELINE OF STORIES FROM
LUCK OF THE DRAW
Kalak's Curse
This story takes place 4 game-months into the campaign. Killraven is trying to come to terms with
his feelings for Lilah, and remembers the events which brought him to Sigil.
Being True
This story represents the brief amount of time that the character of Ovi Bolim was in the game. This story
was written up (long) after the fact of an in-game conversation between Killraven and Ovi. It is important
in that it gives great insight into how Ovi viewed the world, as well as how at least a part of Chakan's homeland
worked.
Swan's Song
Dancing
Throw of the Hammer
Triad of Evils
This series of stories takes place 6 months into the campaign. Killraven has completed the first
part of his cure. Part of the focus of these stories is to resolve the love triangle that
has arisen between Killraven, Lilah, and Swan (an NPC). The final story, Triad, was written by
the DM (me) to provide some background to a few of the events hinted at in the other stories
of the series.
After the Forging
This story takes place 2 weeks after the previous series. It covers the events immediately after
Killraven receives the second part of his cure.
Haven in the Hive
Night of Darkness
This pair of stories takes place 7 months into the campaign, and 2 weeks after the previous story.
The first story was written to enhance the growing relationship between Lilah and Killraven.
The second covers what happens to the rest of the party during the same time period. This second
story mainly serves to resolve a growing concern with Chakan's metaphysical well-being. (This concern
was hinted at in Swan's Song.)
Something to Resolve
The Day After
Post-Mortem
This series of stories happens not too long after the previous one. Here, the party accompanied
Chakan on a public relations mission for the Doomguard. A simple hunting trip turned into
a fight with Tanar'ri. The third story describes what Rogan was up to while the rest of the
party "vacationed" in The Outlands. [Note: The DM has given The Day After a rating of
NC-17 due to strong... content. You have been warned.]
The Gambler
This is the longest story to date - bordering on a small novel. As far as I can tell, this idea
sprung fully formed from the minds of all the players; it doesn't relate to anything that I
had done to them earlier. Of course, it's had some interesting effects for things that I've done
to them later... This story is the source for one of my location descriptions and a magic item.
A Day in the Life...
A simple tale that describes what life is like as Rogan.
The Boogey Man
This story takes place 8 months into the campaign. It describes part of the party's strategy in
preventing the Dancing Men from completing the Pentagram of Belief and thus summoning an Abyssal
Power into Sigil. It serves as a good model as what life in The Hive Ward could be like.
Tacking Spireward
This story can be considered an epilogue to the departure of the Nim character. I asked the player
to give me an idea of what the character would be up to during her absence, so I could keep my notes
up to date in case the player ever wanted to return to the character and the game.
The Date
This story occurs just prior to the most recent gaming sessions (about one month after the events
covered by The Boogey Man). It features Rogan and increases the plots introduced with A
Day in the Life. As a special bonus, we get to see that Gauntwing actually does have a little
bit of a backbone.
Facets of Memory
The player of Ovi, while no longer in the state, still wishes to be involved in the game. As such,
he is still running his character as an "Active NPC". To these ends, the character continues to be
"played", mainly by e-mail and short story. This text covers the most recent, significant event in
Ovi's life - his induction into a faction.
Requiem for a Doomguard
This story is rather long overdue. If you've been paying attention to my PC pages, you'll see that the character
of Chakan died. While this story does not describe that death, it does help to provide a sense of closure for
the aftermath of that event.
One-Pass
This story deals (indirectly) with the character of Ovi. It also covers a new type of contest which has been
brought to the Cage by this exiled dwarf.
An Empty Chair
A Harmonium Hath No Fury...
The Best Laid Plans
These three stories were originally written to provide a bridge between the previous Planescape campaign
("Luck of the Draw") and the next ("Turn of the Wheel"). Unfortunately, what was to be only a
short break turned into a long hiatus. Since it now appears doubtful if I'll ever get to continue the story, let alone
run a PS game again, I'm putting these out here just to clear out my hard drive. These three stories
were supposed to provide hints as to who the major foes and main plot elements of the next campaign were to be.
