Of Pittsylvania, Prince William Co, VA.
Pittsylvania, the seat of an immense plantation, was long a home of the Carter Family. The estate comprised parts of 2 large tracts patented by Robert "King" Carter along the Middle Bull Run. Landon and his younger brother John divided his share of the Great Bull Run Tract between them as per their father's will.
It was still in Carter hands during the Civil War, and served as a station for the treatment of wounded soldiers. Shortly after the 2nd Battle of Manassas (Bull Run), the house was burned by union troops.3 |
