In the early 1800's, Jacob, with John & Peter his brothers, owned 1000 acres of land at Shook's Pond in Dutchess Co, NY. Thre was a blacksmith shop, tannery, and distillery under one management, also a store, whiskey and cider were sold in the store, which was run by Jacob. George had the tannery and Peter was a farmer. Jacob later acquired a sloop, which carried on trade between the town of Hudson and NY City.
In 1821 he was supervisor of the newly formed town of Milan (formerly Northeast Town). Jacob and part of his children moved to Michigan about 1840, settling at Harrison Twp, now Mt. Clemens. 3 |
