One of the signers of the Pledge April 19, 1776. He was a Revolutionary Patriot and branches of the family are recorded in "NY in the Revolution" p. 50.

In 1755 census his name can be found, owner of one slave.

He was a Deacon of the German Reformed Church at Rhinebeck Dec 4, 1747. NYG&B v. 82 p. 163 gvies his name as Claus Stekel in 1738.
