Misc. Notes |
It is not known if the Hertels were French of German, as many Huguenots settled in this area in 1688. The name has many variations of spelling: Hertel, Herter, Harter, Hortel, etc.
Adam seems to have gone from the Hesse area of Germany to Lieberspach to St. Catherine's in England, where there was a large encampment of Palatines June 11, 1709. He was then age 44 and had with him his wife Anna Margaretha and daughter Elizabeth age 14. They were of the Lutheran faith. In 1710 they came with teh sponsorship of Queen Anne and Governor Hunter to the West Camp, a son having been added to the family.
Last marriage record calls him "a widower of Georgetown (Ulster Co.), formerly of Lifersbach near Happenheim on Hochstrassen."3 |
