Person Sheet

Name John B. Campeau Jr.14
Father John Baptist (Jean-Baptiste?) Campeau
Mother Catherine Perthius
Misc. Notes
"In 1832 he moved to the Farm in Macomb on which Frank A. Campau was born. The land at the time of its purchase was still in primitive condition, but he soon turned the first furrows and in course of time opened up a good farm. "17

"James's son, John (Jean) Baptiste Campau, was born in Detroit in 1711. It was his grandson and namesake, John Baptiste Campau, born in Detroit in 1790, who moved to Harrison Township in Macomb County about 1832. The suggestions of descendants of the family that the move: was for economic reasons may be erroneous. The son of one of Lena's sisters speaks with regret of the holdings in Detroit which were sold. This nephew believed that his great-grandfather was unaware of the potential growth of Detroit and moved to Macomb County for economic opportunities to be found there."19
Spouses
1 Julian (Juliane?) Seguin?14
Misc. Notes
"John Baptiste's move in 1832 probably had the effect of prolonging the use of the patois and putting off for a little longer the family's assimilation into the English-speaking community. His sons, Henry, John and Francis, established farms in the township. These were strip farms, the characteristic holding in the area. Some of the early strip farms included both river and lake frontage, but the farms of the three brothers had access only to Lake Saint Clair."19
