"John Baptiste's move in 1832 probably had the effect of prolonging the use of the patois and putting off for a little longer the family's assimilation into the English-speaking community. His sons, Henry, John and Francis, established farms in the township. These were strip farms, the characteristic holding in the area. Some of the early strip farms included both river and lake frontage, but the farms of the three brothers had access only to Lake Saint Clair."19 | ||||||
